It is one of the strongest, yet light-weighing 3D printing thermoplastic. Polycarbonate is very crucial for 3D printing because of its transparency and firmness. It is known for its strength and durability. One of the excellent properties of Polycarbonate is its ability to withstand temperature and heat deflections. It can hold out against -150 degree Celsius to 140 degree Celsius. In general, with PETG, PLA and other plastics it would need high extrusion. But, with Polycarbonate strong and thermal-resistant components can be generated conveniently. Polycarbonate is more suitable with FDM technology.

Due to its high thermal stability, Polycarbonate doesn’t demand high build plate temperature. It is known to be less dense than glass. On account of this, many optical parts can be designed at ease. Polycarbonate is hygroscopic in nature i.e., it absorbs moisture from air. If it is retained in dry surroundings for long, there is scope of swelling which in turn leads to extrusion. While printing with a Polycarbonate, one must handle warping issues as the temperature is high, to avoid print defects.
Polycarbonate is naturally transparent thermoplastic and is bendable without breaking. As it demands high print temperature, build surface and bed print need to be kept in enclosed platforms. The glass transition temperature while printing with a Polycarbonate usually would be 150 degree Celsius. As it is sensitive to moisture, Polycarbonates must be stored in air-sealed and moisture free containers.
